MICHAEL HINTZE, AICP, LEED® AP
Senior Planner

Michael has worked on a wide range of land use, urban design, and transportation projects, and has strived to introduce sustainable development principles into each. After receiving his Master's in Urban Planning degree from the University of Washington, Michael decided that the Pacific Northwest was the ideal place to put his degree to work given the area's reputation for progressive and innovative approaches to land use and transportation planning. Michael's work experience includes developing downtown plans, non-motorized transportation planning and design, development review, design guidelines and standards, public involvement, environmental planning, writing development and zoning code, GIS analysis and mapping, and sustainability plans. Michael has also worked collaboratively with public health professionals, including conducting analysis for, and co-authoring, a Health Impact Assessment on a plan for a large urban neighborhood. Having lived and traveled in many places throughout the U.S. and the world, Michael believes that places can only be fully experienced at less than 10 miles per hour. His passion is making our built environment more appealing and safe for bicycling, walking, and other active modes.

As a regular bicycle commuter from his home in central Seattle, Michael experiences firsthand the fruits of that City's efforts to implement its Bicycle Master Plan, which was developed by Toole Design Group. When not at work Michael enjoys running after his two children, creative endeavors with his wife, and getting out into the beautiful Northwest landscape.
