Toole Design Opens New Office in Columbus, OH; David Shipps Hired as Director

Toole Design Group, the national leader in multimodal transportation planning and design services, is pleased to announce the establishment of a new office in Columbus, Ohio this week.

“Opening an office in Ohio is a natural step for our company, following several years of work assisting the statewide Active Transportation Team,” said Toole Design President Jennifer Toole. “We look forward to continuing our work with this new office, delivering technical assistance and project support for communities across the state.”

The Columbus office will be led by David Shipps, AICP. David joins Toole Design from TranSystems, where he was a frequent partner and collaborator on statewide Safe Routes to School and active transportation and health projects across Ohio. He has already worked with Toole Design staff on projects with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Ohio Department of Health.

“David is a talented leader and project manager – with an outstanding reputation for his work throughout Ohio,” said Jennifer Toole. “We have worked with David for years, and are thrilled to welcome him as our Columbus Office Director.”

David brings a strong background in active transportation projects and planning to Toole Design. A national leader in Safe Routes to School planning, he helped ODOT pioneer a new approach to large-scale school travel plans for Cincinnati’s public school system. He has also been working on the Toole Design team assisting ODOT in the development of Lorain, Ohio’s Active Transportation Plan – the first active transportation plan in ODOT’s history.

“I am so excited to join Toole Design and help communities in Ohio and beyond expand their active transportation options,” said David. “This is an incredible opportunity to work with my new colleagues, clients, and partners on safe, people-focused planning for people of all ages in Columbus and beyond.”
