PROJECT SCOPE

The Glover Park Transportation Study is assessing the transportation system in the neighborhood to identify opportunities for improvement and to address key concerns for local residents. This project will include an analysis of traffic patterns and conditions, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, access to transit and other key destinations, and parking.

The study area for this project is bounded by:

  • South: Whitehaven Parkway NW
  • North: 3700-3900 Cathedral Avenue NW
  • West: 42nd Street NW
  • East: 36th Street NW

A multimodal transportation plan for Glover Park will provide the necessary analysis, concepts and designs to:

  • Enhance the walkability of the neighborhood, improving pedestrian access to key destinations and further encouraging more trips on foot;
  • Support and encourage bicycling by recommending roadway designs that improve bicycle safety in the study area, and improve connectivity between Glover Park and the City’s growing network of bikeways;
  • Enhance transit access and strengthen neighborhood connections to transit stops;
  • Address changes to transportation patterns that will result from the new Recreation Center;
  • Address traffic circulation issues, while also improving pedestrian crossing conditions at intersections and uncontrolled crossing locations;
  • Address speeding and cut-through traffic in the neighborhood and protect residential streets from traffic impacts from Wisconsin Avenue.

The plan will include detailed maps that inventory existing conditions in Glover Park and that illustrate proposed improvements. Short, mid- and long- term recommendations will be developed to improve safety and mobility, reduce vehicle speeds and congestion.

This project is being conducted by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). Toole Design Group, LLC. is providing consulting services for the study.
