Are you interested in using your planning or engineering degree to make places better for walking and biking? Are you curious as to why a city decides where to put its bike lanes? How about identifying new pedestrian crossings? If so, we’re looking for someone like you to spend time this summer learning about pedestrian and bicyclist planning and design while working on real projects as an Intern at Toole Design Group.
As a TDG intern, you will not fetch coffee or sort mail. We want you here for real, meaningful work. Summer interns spend 8 to 12 weeks working alongside our staff of 130+ landscape architects, planners, and engineers in our 13 offices across the country. A typical day might have you analyzing survey data for a pedestrian master plan, preparing materials for a public meeting, or helping to develop graphics for a client’s new design manual. TDG is a truly inter-disciplinary firm, so you’ll be involved across the planning, design, and engineering phases to ensure that our projects are safe for all users, easily constructible, and fit in the community context.
Your time at TDG will be filled with opportunity, but you’ll also gain valuable experience working with our professional planners, engineers, and landscape architects in a fast-paced work environment. There’s no better teacher than first-hand experience, and you’ll learn the keyboard shortcuts, professional skills, and other important workplace skills, like identifying the best food trucks for lunch. You’ll get to do this at one of our transit-adjacent, bikeable, walkable offices.
Are You TDG Material?
So, if you are:
- Passionate about making active transportation possible in cities, suburbs, and rural areas
- Willing to learn, and take on new challenges
- Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment
- Able to pay attention to the details on all your work
- Always asking questions when you need help, and willing to take ownership of your work when you’ve gotten the answer
…you should apply!
In your cover letter, please include a list of the TDG offices where you would be interested in working.
